The Impact of Companies and Consumers: Clothing, Energy and Human Rights
Synopsis
Business and human rights are closely connected in many ways. Economic activities of businesses, governments and key international institutions can sometimes be linked to human rights abuses. This is the case for the clothing and energy industries. Both stretch around the world and abuses may be involved in the production of the clothes we wear and the energy we consume. This discussion will delve deeply into the problem and the possibilities for working toward improvement, focusing on the question: Where do you stand? Experts as well as company representatives will join us for this session while we explore case studies in Uzbekistan, Colombia, and Kazakhstan that are closely linked to consumers in Europe.
Speakers: Mihra Rittmann (Central Asia Researcher at Human Rights Watch), Joël Frijhoff (Responsible Sourcing Manager at Vattenfall) and Wouter Kolk (Campaign Leader PAX for Peace)
