A Family Tour
Synopsis
This semi-autobiographical film is director Ying Liang’s reflection on life as an exile from China, but still in the neighborhood that includes Hong Kong and Taiwan.
After China banned her film, an exiled filmmaker, with husband and child in tow, stalks a tour bus through Taiwan for the only chance to see her mother, who is visiting from mainland China. This attempt by family members to see each other highlights the dilemma for many Chinese who leave their country in protest or to survive but who need to fly under the radar and not attract attention.
