Discussion: Artificial Intelligence, big data and human rights: progress or setback?”

Screenings
Artificial intelligence and big data have an extensive impact on our lives, playing a role when we apply for schools or jobs, when we shop and when we skim our social media feeds. Moreover, in some countries police and intelligence agencies use algorithms to determine which neighborhoods to focus on or to identify whether we’re security risks.
While these technological advances also offer potential benefits to society, often driven by companies and governments, this rapidly expanding technology carries inherent risks to human rights. We invite you to discuss the following crucial issues with us: surveillance and privacy; algorithms and discrimination; and the need for ethics, accountability and transparency.
Discussion featuring:
Evelyn Austin, Bits of Freedom, Benjamin Strick, Bellingcat, Marlies van Eck, Leiden University Bahram Sadeghi, TV director and host
