Synopsis

Former US Navy SEAL Chris Beck embarks on a new mission as Kristin Beck. Kristin's journey in search of the American ideals that she protected: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness have a whole new meaning as she lives as a transgender woman.

Transgender people face an array of human rights abuses worldwide. Human Rights Watch's September 2011 report, Controlling Bodies, Denying Identities: Human Rights Violations against Trans People in the Netherlands, contained recommendations that were largely accepted by lawmakers in the Netherlands. In December 2013, a new law was passed to allow transgender people to change their gender marker in their official identity papers without requiring them to undergo unnecessary surgical or hormonal interventions. Human Rights Watch also called for an end to police abuse against transgender women in Kuwait in its January 2012 report, "They Hunt Us Down for Fun": Discrimination and Police Violence against Transgender Women in Kuwait. Currently, Human Rights Watch is conducting research on the application of a law that prohibits cross-dressing in Malaysia and subjects transgender people to numerous rights abuses.
